From L to R: Eric Mulya, Kathleen Green, CEO Todd Trout, Board Vice President Wayne King, Program Director Luz Trout, & Board Treasurer Gary Green

On Friday, February 7, 2020, our Board Vice President Wayne King received the 2020 EDDY Award for his dedication and service to our Club.

Wayne has been involved with our Club for the past 12 years. Wayne often shares his story: “As a single father, I needed a safe place for my twin boys while at work, and someone recommended I go check out the Club.”

Seeing the Club’s positive effect in his son’s lives, Wayne soon joined the Board of Directors. He has served as Board Treasurer, Board Vice President, and Board President. Wayne has been an instrumental supporter for the Club Woodshop and Teen Programs, as well as serving on the Finance Committee for the past 7 years.

Wayne’s sons have been involved in the Club Keystone Teen Leadership Program as well as members on Jr. Staff. Currently, his son Andrew is an active military personnel serving in the Military Police for the United States Marine Corps. His son, Nick, currently works at Ganahl Lumber Buena Park and is training for future employment as a fire fighter.

2019 GOLD STANDARD ATTENDANCE AND PROGRAMMATIC EXCELLENCE AWARD

In September, the Boys & Girls Club of Buena Park was recognized by Boys & Girls Clubs of America for “exceptional program growth and excellence”. The Gold Level Award was presented to Club CEO Todd Trout by Boys & Girls Clubs of America President Jim Clark. Bridgestone Tires, a national partner, presented our Club with a $12,000 award to further our growth and program needs. It was such an honor to receive the Gold Standard Award out of 1,000 clubs in the Pacific West region. Structured activities, such as our wood shop, rock climbing/rock wall program, fine arts club, and Teen Leadership and Money Management program are all leading the way in the services we offer over 1,000 youth and teens every day.

2019 Professional of the Year Award PROGRAM DIRECTOR LUZ TROUT

There are over 4,000 Boys & Girls Clubs in America. In Orange County, there are 15 Clubs representing cities from South Orange County (San Clemente) to North Orange County (La Habra). In June, our Program Director Luz Trout was selected for the Dos Manos Award (Orange County Professional of the Year) out of all 15 Clubs in Orange County. Luz has been working at the Boys & Girls Club of Buena Park for the past 14 years and has received national recognition and numerous awards for our Teen Leadership Programs. Adding the Professional of the Year is an honor well-deserved for the countless hours and lives she has impacted.

Thank you for making an investment in our Club and in our mission to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential. Everything donation makes an impact, no matter the size. Thank you for being a part of our Club family!
